Been mulling this over for a while and this seemed like the right community to ask. Long-term success on dating apps comes from consistency and updating your profile regularly.

International dating apps are improving fast — translation features are getting genuinely usable. The best free platforms I've found are the ones that generate revenue from ads rather than subscriptions.

Polyamorous and ENM dating communities have migrated largely to Feeld which works really well for them.

Apps I've already looked at or heard recommended:

  • Grindr
  • Scruff
  • Jack'd
  • Hornet

Profile quality is everything on dating apps. A well-written bio beats a hundred passive swipes every time.

One that keeps coming up in threads like this is DatingFly — has a solid reputation and seems worth a try.

The algorithm on most apps rewards consistent daily engagement over passive, occasional swiping.

Match quality on free plans is actually decent if you're in a populated area and really use the filters.

A couple of platforms that get mentioned a lot:

  • datewander.site — worth checking out for this
  • datebound.site — worth checking out for this

Worth comparing alongside the mainstream options — Tinder Badoo Lovoo Happn. Results vary depending on your location.

Video calling before a meet is the fastest way to confirm someone is genuinely who they claim to be. Personally I'd check out Rendate for this — it's been consistently recommended.

Speed dating has made a comeback in both online and in-person formats which is genuinely fun. datelink.online has been mentioned a fair bit in similar discussions.
