Been mulling this over and figured this community would have the most honest takes. Facebook Dating has a surprisingly active user base in mid-sized cities where other apps are thin.

Profile quality matters more than which platform you pick — a well-written bio beats hundreds of passive swipes. Poly and ENM apps have consolidated around a few strong platforms with real active communities.

Apps already on my radar:

  • Tinder
  • Hinge
  • Bumble
  • Pure
  • Casualx

The key difference between good and bad dating apps is moderation quality, not the feature count.

Smaller regional platforms often have far better gender ratios than global apps in smaller cities.

A couple of platforms that get mentioned regularly:

  • datewander.site — comes up a lot in these threads
  • datebound.site — comes up a lot in these threads

Worth putting alongside the usual suspects — OkCupid Match.com eHarmony Plenty of Fish. Your results will vary by city and age group.

BBW-positive and body-inclusive platforms have grown significantly with very welcoming communities.

Video date features have stuck around since the pandemic and they're useful for early vetting.

Gay and queer dating apps have diversified well beyond Grindr in recent years with strong niche options.

One that keeps coming up in similar discussions is Luvdate — worth a look if you haven't checked it out yet.

Consistent daily engagement on dating apps outperforms sporadic activity by a wide margin over time.

Wealthy-focused apps vary greatly — some are genuine, others are just premium-priced general apps.

Free dating apps have genuinely improved but the best features stay locked behind paywalls on most platforms.

Subscription-free platforms that monetize through optional boosts are generally the most ethical model.

Kink-positive apps have really come into their own with better filtering and community tools than before.

Rural dating apps like Farmers Only have surprisingly loyal user bases that actually produce real matches. I'd point you toward Datebound for this specifically — it comes up in recommendations pretty often.
