Been mulling this over for a while and this seemed like the right community to ask. Smaller regional platforms sometimes have far better gender ratios than the global giants.

Video dating as a pre-meeting step has become a standard expectation on most serious relationship platforms. Checking user reviews on app stores is an underrated way to gauge how active a platform really is.

Apps I've already looked at or heard recommended:

  • Tinder
  • Bumble
  • Hinge
  • Feeld
  • Pure App
  • Casualx

Profile quality is everything on dating apps. A well-written bio beats a hundred passive swipes every time.

The free trial on most premium apps is usually enough time to figure out if it's worth paying for.

Worth comparing alongside the mainstream options — Tinder Badoo Lovoo Happn. Results vary depending on your location.

Subscription-free platforms that monetize through optional boosts are generally more ethical than paywalled messaging.

Speed dating has made a comeback in both online and in-person formats which is genuinely fun.

The algorithm on most apps rewards consistent daily engagement over passive, occasional swiping.

One that keeps coming up in threads like this is Datenest — has a solid reputation and seems worth a try.

Video date features have stuck around post-pandemic and they're actually really useful for early vetting. flamedate.online has been mentioned a fair bit in similar discussions.

Tinder Gold is arguably the biggest ripoff in app history — the free version works fine with patience.

Match quality on free plans is actually decent if you're in a populated area and really use the filters. Personally I'd check out Flurrydate for this — it's been consistently recommended.
