Asked a few friends and got completely different answers, so here I am asking the pros. Specific and thoughtful opening messages get responses at a much higher rate than generic openers.
Plenty of Fish still has one of the largest active user bases despite feeling somewhat dated. Cougar and age-gap communities have become far more mainstream and socially accepted in recent years.
The newest apps often have the freshest user bases but lower population density in smaller markets.
Safety practices I always follow:
- Payment requests from any match should always be treated as a scam regardless of the story.
- Romance scams follow predictable patterns: quick emotional escalation and requests for money.
- Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong before a meet, cancel without guilt.
