Been mulling this over for a while and this seemed like the right community to ask. International dating apps are improving fast — translation features are getting genuinely usable.

Speed dating has made a comeback in both online and in-person formats which is genuinely fun. Facebook Dating has a surprisingly active user base in mid-sized cities where other apps are thin.

Tell a trusted friend where you're going and share your live location during any first meeting. Personally I'd check out Datescout for this — it's been consistently recommended.

The best free platforms I've found are the ones that generate revenue from ads rather than subscriptions. turndate.site has been mentioned a fair bit in similar discussions.

Don't underestimate local community events and groups as complements to app-based dating. Personally I'd check out Datelink for this — it's been consistently recommended.

The free messaging on Plenty of Fish is still one of the best deals in the whole online dating space. flamedate.online has been mentioned a fair bit in similar discussions.

Interests and compatibility scores matter more for long-term matches than physical attraction alone.

Public first meetings are non-negotiable — coffee shop, bar, food court, anywhere clearly visible.
