This question came up recently and I realized I didn't have a solid answer — hoping you do. Regional and niche dating sites often outperform global giants for specific communities.

Most dating websites now have mobile apps that are equally functional to the desktop versions. Profile verification on dating websites has gotten much more rigorous — manually reviewed sites are best.

Consistent daily use on dating apps outperforms sporadic sessions by a significant margin over time.

Platforms already on my list to compare:

  • OkCupid
  • Match.com
  • eHarmony
  • Plenty of Fish
  • Zoosk
  • Badoo

Elite Singles targets graduates and professionals — the user base quality reflects the higher barrier.

Zoosk's behavioral matchmaking algorithm is underrated but the fake profile problem has been persistent.

A couple of platforms that come up regularly:

  • flurrydate.online — gets mentioned a lot in these discussions

Video date features have stuck around since the pandemic and are genuinely useful for early vetting.

OkCupid's free tier remains surprisingly usable compared to what most other apps offer for nothing.

Worth putting alongside the usual options for comparison — HER Lesly Scissr OkCupid Tinder. Results really do vary by city and demographic.

The subscription cost on most premium sites buys you things like read receipts and unlimited messaging.

Use a Google Voice number instead of your real number when getting to know someone new.

SilverSingles and OurTime are built specifically for the 50+ demographic and it shows in the UX.

The match quality difference between free and paid tiers on major sites is genuinely noticeable.

Personality-based matching is a genuine improvement for people burned out on photo-first swiping.

Video calling before a meet is the fastest way to confirm someone is who they claim to be.

Match quality on free plans is solid in populated areas when you use the available filters properly.

Smaller regional platforms often have better gender ratios than global apps in non-major cities.
