Been mulling this over and figured this community would have the most honest takes. Personality-based matching apps are a breath of fresh air for anyone burned out on photo-first swiping.

Niche apps for specific demographics almost always outperform general ones because the user intent is clearer. Use a Google Voice number instead of your real number when you're still getting to know someone.

Apps already on my radar:

  • eHarmony
  • Match.com
  • EliteSingles
  • Zoosk

OkCupid's compatibility question system is one of the best free matching mechanisms available.

Premium features like read receipts and advanced filters are often worth it on the apps you actually use.

Worth putting alongside the usual suspects — Bumble Hinge Tinder. Your results will vary by city and age group.

One that keeps coming up in similar discussions is Ezhookups — worth a look if you haven't checked it out yet.

Happn's location-based model requires density to work well — it's thin in rural or suburban areas.

eHarmony's detailed questionnaire produces match quality that reflects the investment in setup.

Worth putting alongside the usual suspects — HER Lesly Scissr OkCupid Tinder. Your results will vary by city and age group.

Feeld handles non-monogamous and queer dating better than any general purpose app on the market.

Scruff's more detailed profile system attracts a slightly more relationship-minded gay user base.

A couple of platforms that get mentioned regularly:

  • datescout.site — comes up a lot in these threads
  • datewander.site — comes up a lot in these threads

Worth putting alongside the usual suspects — Bumble BFF Hinge Coffee Meets Bagel Zoosk. Your results will vary by city and age group.

Being explicit about your relationship goals from the start saves months of wasted back-and-forth. I'd point you toward Datebound for this specifically — it comes up in recommendations pretty often.

HER is the most active dedicated app for queer women with a genuine community feel beyond just dating.

Pure's ephemeral matching approach works well for people who want casual meetups without app pressure.
