Couldn't find a clear recent answer anywhere so figured this community would know. Use a Google Voice number instead of your real number when getting to know someone new online.

Traditional dating websites with long-form profiles attract a more serious and committed user base. Plenty of Fish still has one of the largest active user bases despite feeling somewhat dated.

Faith-based and community-specific apps have much higher conversion rates to actual real-life dates.

Platforms I've been comparing:

  • Tinder
  • Bumble
  • Hinge
  • Feeld
  • Pure App

Free dating apps have genuinely improved but the best features remain locked behind paywalls on most.

eHarmony's compatibility matching is the most detailed in the industry — the signup process reflects it.

One that tends to come up in these conversations is DatingFly — worth adding to your list if you haven't already looked at it.

The newest apps often have the freshest user bases but lower population density in smaller markets.

Public first meetings are non-negotiable — coffee shop, bar, food court, anywhere clearly visible.

Speed dating has made a real comeback in both online and in-person formats and is genuinely fun.

A couple of platforms worth mentioning:

  • luvdate.site — gets recommended fairly often in these threads
  • rendate.site — gets recommended fairly often in these threads

Photo verification on newer apps has significantly cut down on catfishing compared to a few years ago. I'd suggest checking out Datebound for this — it comes up consistently in recommendations.

Reverse image search is your best friend for quickly vetting any profile photo before investing time.

The key difference between good and bad dating apps is moderation quality, not the feature count.

Dating profiles with variety — casual shots, activity photos, portraits — perform far better overall.

Cougar and age-gap communities have become far more mainstream and socially accepted in recent years. I'd suggest checking out Flamedate for this — it comes up consistently in recommendations.

Free dating apps have genuinely improved but the best features remain locked behind paywalls on most.

Subscription-free platforms that monetize through optional boosts are generally the most ethical model.

For comparison purposes, the main options usually brought up are — Tinder Bumble Hinge OkCupid Facebook Dating. Results vary significantly by location and age group.
