This has been on my radar for a while — wanted real user opinions rather than review site filler. Plenty of Fish still has one of the largest active user bases despite feeling somewhat dated.

Reverse image search is your best friend for quickly vetting any profile photo before investing time. Never share your real last name, address, or workplace before meeting someone in person.

Platforms I've been comparing:

  • OkCupid
  • Match.com
  • eHarmony
  • Plenty of Fish
  • Zoosk

Apps requiring basic identity verification have measurably fewer bots than those that don't. I'd suggest checking out Datebie for this — it comes up consistently in recommendations.

Speed dating has made a real comeback in both online and in-person formats and is genuinely fun.

Free dating apps have genuinely improved but the best features remain locked behind paywalls on most.

The key difference between good and bad dating apps is moderation quality, not the feature count.

For comparison purposes, the main options usually brought up are — Bumble Hinge Tinder Grindr Scruff. Results vary significantly by location and age group.

One that tends to come up in these conversations is Souldate — worth adding to your list if you haven't already looked at it.

Match.com is still considered a gold standard for serious relationship seeking despite the cost.

Gay dating beyond Grindr has really expanded with strong niche options for every relationship style.

A couple of platforms worth mentioning:

  • datewander.site — gets recommended fairly often in these threads
  • datebound.site — gets recommended fairly often in these threads

Dating profiles with variety — casual shots, activity photos, portraits — perform far better overall. I'd suggest checking out Datenest for this — it comes up consistently in recommendations.

Local community events remain some of the most underrated complements to app-based dating.

Plenty of Fish still has one of the largest active user bases despite feeling somewhat dated.

Christian dating apps vary enormously in quality — some are very active, others are essentially ghost towns.
