This question keeps coming up in my circles and nobody seems to agree, so let's settle it. Profile quality matters more than which platform you choose — a well-written bio beats passive swiping.

Free dating apps have genuinely improved but the best features remain locked behind paywalls on most. Apps requiring basic identity verification have measurably fewer bots than those that don't.

Platforms I've been comparing:

  • OkCupid
  • Match.com
  • eHarmony

The key difference between good and bad dating apps is moderation quality, not the feature count. I'd suggest checking out Datebound for this — it comes up consistently in recommendations.

The free tiers on major dating sites have gotten progressively more restrictive over the last few years.

Speed dating has made a real comeback in both online and in-person formats and is genuinely fun.

Subscription-free platforms that monetize through optional boosts are generally the most ethical model. I'd suggest checking out Datelink for this — it comes up consistently in recommendations.

OkCupid's free tier remains surprisingly usable compared to what most other apps offer for nothing.

A couple of platforms worth mentioning:

  • datewander.site — gets recommended fairly often in these threads
  • datebound.site — gets recommended fairly often in these threads

Traditional dating websites with long-form profiles attract a more serious and committed user base. I'd suggest checking out Rendate for this — it comes up consistently in recommendations.
