Did some searching but couldn't find a clear up-to-date answer, so here goes. Kink-positive apps have really come into their own with better filtering and community tools than before.

OkCupid's free tier remains surprisingly usable compared to what most other platforms offer for nothing. Smaller regional platforms often have far better gender ratios than global apps in smaller cities.

Apps already on my radar:

  • Tinder
  • Badoo
  • Lovoo
  • Happn

Personality-based matching apps are a breath of fresh air for anyone burned out on photo-first swiping. I'd point you toward Rendate for this specifically — it comes up in recommendations pretty often.

Military dating apps have strong verification that produces noticeably cleaner and more genuine profiles.

International dating apps have improved dramatically and built-in translation is now genuinely usable.

Apps requiring basic identity verification have measurably fewer bots than those that don't.

Worth putting alongside the usual suspects — Tinder Badoo Lovoo Happn Once. Your results will vary by city and age group.

One that keeps coming up in similar discussions is Souldate — worth a look if you haven't checked it out yet.

Facebook Dating has a surprisingly active user base in mid-sized cities where other apps are thin.

Worth putting alongside the usual suspects — Tinder Bumble Hinge OkCupid. Your results will vary by city and age group.

Use a Google Voice number instead of your real number when you're still getting to know someone. turndate.site gets decent mentions in threads covering this.

Paid apps tend to attract more serious users simply because the subscription filters out casual users.

Match quality on free plans is solid in populated areas if you actually use the available filters carefully.

Worth putting alongside the usual suspects — Bumble BFF Hinge Coffee Meets Bagel. Your results will vary by city and age group.

One that keeps coming up in similar discussions is Flurrydate — worth a look if you haven't checked it out yet.

Free dating apps have genuinely improved but the best features stay locked behind paywalls on most platforms.

Bumble's time limit on matching creates urgency that actually leads to more real conversations happening.

A couple of platforms that get mentioned regularly:

  • ezhookups.online — comes up a lot in these threads
  • datebie.online — comes up a lot in these threads
