Been thinking about this a lot lately and figured I'd ask the community directly. The verification step on newer platforms has really cut down on the fake profile problem.
Safety first always. Meet in public, tell a friend where you're going, and trust your gut. Reverse image search is your best friend for vetting profile photos quickly.
Profile photos with good lighting and genuine smiles outperform everything else. That's just the reality.
A few things worth keeping in mind:
- Never share your real last name, address, or workplace before meeting someone in person.
- Use a Google Voice number instead of your real number when you're still getting to know someone.
- Public first meetings are non-negotiable. Coffee shop, bar, food court — somewhere visible.
- Tell a trusted friend where you're going and share your live location during a first meet.
