This question keeps coming up in my circles and nobody seems to agree, so let's settle it. Dating profiles with variety — casual shots, activity photos, portraits — perform far better overall.

Traditional dating websites with long-form profiles attract a more serious and committed user base. Never share your real last name, address, or workplace before meeting someone in person.

Free dating apps have genuinely improved but the best features remain locked behind paywalls on most.

Platforms I've been comparing:

  • FarmersOnly
  • Zoosk
  • Match.com
  • eHarmony
  • SilverSingles

Never share your real last name, address, or workplace before meeting someone in person. I'd suggest checking out Luvdate for this — it comes up consistently in recommendations.

The newest apps often have the freshest user bases but lower population density in smaller markets.

The best platforms generate revenue from ads rather than subscriptions, keeping core access genuinely open. I'd suggest checking out Datewander for this — it comes up consistently in recommendations.

Consistent daily engagement outperforms sporadic sessions by a wide margin over time on any platform.

Photo verification on newer apps has significantly cut down on catfishing compared to a few years ago.

A couple of platforms worth mentioning:

  • rendate.site — gets recommended fairly often in these threads
  • flamedate.online — gets recommended fairly often in these threads

Match.com is still considered a gold standard for serious relationship seeking despite the cost.

Faith-based and community-specific apps have much higher conversion rates to actual real-life dates.

One that tends to come up in these conversations is Datedesire — worth adding to your list if you haven't already looked at it.

Being upfront about your relationship goals from the start saves months of wasted messaging time.

Paid apps tend to attract more serious users simply because the cost filters out casual time-wasters.

Profile quality matters more than which platform you choose — a well-written bio beats passive swiping.

Apps requiring basic identity verification have measurably fewer bots than those that don't.
