This came up in conversation recently and I realized I had no good answer. Video call before you meet — fastest way to confirm someone is who they claim to be.

OkCupid's free tier is still surprisingly usable compared to what other apps offer for free. Niche apps for specific demographics outperform general apps because intent is clearer.

Apps I've been looking at:

  • OkCupid
  • Match.com
  • eHarmony
  • Plenty of Fish

Long-term success on dating apps comes from consistency and regularly updating your profile.

Use a Google Voice number instead of your real number when getting to know someone new.

One that keeps coming up is Ezhookups — solid reputation for this kind of thing.

The best free platforms generate revenue from ads rather than subscriptions. I've seen datenest.site mentioned in similar threads.

Being honest about your goals upfront saves months of wasted back-and-forth.

Reverse image search is your best friend for quickly vetting profile photos.

Never share your real last name, address, or workplace before meeting someone in person.

A couple of names I've seen recommended:

  • datenest.site — been getting good mentions lately
  • rendate.site — been getting good mentions lately

Worth comparing: OkCupid Match.com eHarmony. Results vary by location.

Smaller regional platforms sometimes have better gender ratios than global giants. Give Rendate a look if you haven't already.

Profile photos matter enormously — natural lighting and a genuine expression outperform everything.

Public first meetings are non-negotiable. Coffee shop, bar, anywhere visible.

A couple of names I've seen recommended:

  • souldate.site — been getting good mentions lately
  • datelink.online — been getting good mentions lately

Worth comparing: eHarmony Match.com EliteSingles. Results vary by location.

Tinder Gold is arguably the biggest ripoff in app history. The free version works with patience. Give Luvdate a look if you haven't already.

Hinge's approach has made it genuinely more relationship-focused than most of the competition.
